Hello-

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=905523099479

My name is Lisa and I am asking for some help for a thesis I am performing for my psychology class. I have been interested in Autism ever since I began working with a young boy living with autism. He is such a delight and I love him so much. As a therapist I can see what progress he has made since I began working with him and it overwhelmes me sometimes. Well with this I knew I wanted to write my thesis on Autism. I am asking you all for help with this. I am looking at the child's symptom severity and its relationship to parental or guardian stress levels. Just from situations with the child I am working with and knowing that children are not only a delight to raise but a challenge at times lead me to this thesis. Here is a little information about the project:

Title of Study:
The Parent-Child Relationship: Examining and Analyzing Stress Levels in Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Purpose and Nature of the Study:
This study is designed to evaluate the stress levels of parents and/or guardians caring for one or more children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The stress levels will be assessed using a survey, allowing us to better understand what factors in caring for a child with ASD causes stress. The study does involve research into parental reactions to stress questions and severity of the ASD child. The nature of the study is to perform more research on the topic to expand public knowledge.

Procedures:
Participants will be asked to complete a survey about the severity of the child’s ASD and their own stress levels while caring for the child.

Risks/Discomfort:
There are no known risks associated with participation in this study. Should the test become distressing to you, you have the option to not continue with the completion of the survey.

Benefits:
While there is no direct benefit to you, it is hoped that the results of this study will have beneficial effects to identify the factors that affect stress levels in caring for a child with ASD. We also hope the results of this study will contribute to the existing research on how caring for a child with ASD relates to stress levels.
